11/20/2023 0 Comments Dr steward in collingwoodIn terms of my visual arts practice, I’m currently finishing a commission for the 2023 TarraWarra Biennial: ua usiusi faʻavaʻasavili curated by Dr Léuli Eshrasghi which opens in April. The ongoing project aims to create a life-affirming space that values and centres the breadth and depth of creative practices and art writing that exist outside the Western canon and it is intended as a safe space for marginalized folks to be in contemplation and in-conversation with each other without the weight of the institutional gaze. With each iteration, I partner with artists and collectives who are interested in working outside formal institutional frameworks to create a counterspace for critical dialogue and alternative modes for creative practice and presentation. The project has been presented at Footscray Community Arts Centre, Arts House, Colour Box Studio, Testing Grounds, Arts Mildura and Metro Arts and engaged with public programming events with the Emerging Writers Festival and MPavilion. Over the past ten years, the CRR has evolved from a static collection of my own books, to one that incorporates a co-curated program of exhibitions and events to engage the public with the themes arising from the collection. It was really established in response to shared lived-experiences of practitioners and students who were exhausted by a monocultural curriculum that ignored their presence, excluded their historical contributions and contemporary reference points and was heavily inspired by my visit to the Stuart Hall Library at INIVIA in 2011. I was drawing a lot from my own collection of texts about contemporary Pacific art and artists. I started the Community Reading Room (CRR) in 2013 and it just grew organically out of a community need for a collection and space for First Nations, Black, global Indigenous artists to connect with each other and an archive of books and ephemera that privileged the creative practices of their kin, ancestors and peers. Tell us about the Community Reading Room? Symptoms on the right side were almost completely gone until I had to see my doctor and I got anxious or having anxiety and guess what, the symptoms return (pins and needles and numbness), however, not as bad as from the beginning. Have your symptoms approved at all? I hope you recover soon. I'll post my detailed symptoms in Covid-19 vaccine side effect thread. He said this is not usual and he thinks it has something to do with spinal cord or brain so he refers me to have EMG test with neurologist(probably have to wait about a month). He did the testing for my legs and feet as well and he was alarm when I had some reflex on my right foot when he move this finger under my foot. I went to see my doctor today and he thinks the numbness on my left fingers are from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which I kind of agree. My symptoms are more on the left side but I start to have foot and calf vibrations on my right side in the past few days. Yes I have the injection of the left side. And a lot of people who post about this problem say it goes away in 6-8 weeks. I did a search for numbness, tingling, and nerves. They'll let you talk to each other AFTER you get it, haha). Because these subconscious hints streak through our memory almost as fleetingly as they flash on a screen, they hold no power unless they happen to relate to our immediate goals or natural proclivities. On the contrary, it seems that we are susceptible to these extremely brief suggestions only under special, somewhat limited circumstances. Subliminal messaging cannot override our intentions or commandeer our will. Recently, though, psychologists have begun to discover that subliminal messages can sometimes redirect our decisions, but not at all in the way Vicary had proposed. and Europe continued to believe that subliminal advertising could shape consumer choice despite all the evidence to the contrary. After five years Vicary confessed that his so-called experiment was “a gimmick.” His admission garnered far less attention than his initial publicity stunt. Researchers tried to replicate Vicary’s findings during this time, but none succeeded. As public pressure mounted in response, the U.K., Australia and the National Association of Broadcasters in America all banned subliminal advertising sight unseen. Vance Packard’s book The Hidden Persuaders-which described Vicary’s claims in detail-became an overnight best seller. On October 5, 1957, some three weeks after Vicary’s event, Norman Cousins, editor in chief of the Saturday Review, wrote an article called “Smudging the Subconscious,” in which he lambasted ad campaigns designed to “break into the deepest and most private parts of the human mind and leave all sorts of scratch marks.” The Central Intelligence Agency soon issued a report on the operational potential of subliminal perception. The idea that ads might be broadcast subliminally, below the threshold of conscious awareness, seemed akin to brainwashing. Vicary’s findings played directly into a popular fear at the time that Madison Avenue could manipulate consumers like mindless puppets. As proof, he presented data indicating that the messages had increased soda sales at the theater by 18 percent and popcorn sales by 58 percent. Vicary argued that these messages were too fast for filmgoers to read but salient enough for the audience to register their meaning subconsciously. Over the course of six weeks during the preceding summer, he had arranged to have slogans-specifically, “Eat popcorn” and “Drink Coca-Cola”-flashed for three milliseconds, every five seconds, onto a movie screen in Fort Lee, N.J., while patrons watched Picnic. On September 12, 1957, Vicary called a press conference to announce the results of an unusual experiment. Vicary, an independent marketing researcher. In this real-life story, the spotlight falls on James M. The birth of subliminal advertising reads almost like a script from a television show. 11/20/2023 0 Comments Davinci resolve 16 studioThe following year, version 10 was released, increasing the amount of information imported from XML, AAF and EDL files, and adding OpenFX plug-in, JPEG 2000 and AVI support. Version 9 (2012) included redesigned user interface elements, added metadata editing options, and expanded the range of supported cameras and file types. Subsequently, version 8.2 (December 2011) further expanded the software's scope (which was previously available only for macOS and Linux) with the first Windows release, beginning with a public beta. Version 8 also introduced OpenCL acceleration support and XML integration with non-linear editor (NLE) applications. The pricing model changes continued in June 2011 with the release of version 8: As part of this new version, Blackmagic Design announced a free, reduced-functionality edition of the software (known as DaVinci Resolve 8 Lite), alongside the continuing commercial options. It included a redesigned user interface, Apple ProRes support, and support for the RED Rocket digital video decoder boards manufactured by Red Digital Cinema. In September 2010, version 7 (restyled as DaVinci Resolve) was the first to be released by Blackmagic Design under the new pricing model, and the first release for macOS. Before this change, the pre-built versions of Resolve were the only available options, selling for between $200,000 and $800,000, which was common industry practice at the time. Blackmagic Design versions (2010–present) Īt NAB 2010 in Las Vegas, in April 2010, Blackmagic Design announced three new pricing models for Resolve, with a new software-only macOS version retailing for $995, the macOS version with the Advanced Control Surface (previously branded as Impresario by da Vinci Systems ) retailing for $29,995, and licenses for the Linux version (supporting multiple-GPUs for increased performance) retailing at $19,995 (with the most advanced configuration available retailing for under $150,000). In October 2009, Blackmagic Design CEO Grant Petty speculated in an interview that the price of Resolve could likely be reduced to below $100,000. In 2009, Australian video processing and distribution technology company Blackmagic Design bought da Vinci Systems, retaining and expanding the engineering team for Resolve but eliminating support-based contracts for the tool. This was initially implemented using proprietary hardware cards however, the 4K resolution Resolve R series (such as the R-100, introduced in 2008, and the stereoscopic 3D R-360-3D, introduced in 2009) replaced this proprietary hardware with CUDA-based NVIDIA GPUs. The systems leveraged parallel processing in an InfiniBand topology to support performance during color grading. These initial versions were integrated exclusively into dedicated hardware controllers. It began with three possible configurations: the Resolve DI digital intermediate color correction tool, the Resolve FX visual effects tool, and the Resolve RT 2K resolution processing tool. The system was first announced in 2003 and released in 2004. The initial versions of DaVinci Resolve (known then as da Vinci Resolve) were resolution-independent software tools developed by da Vinci Systems (based in Coral Springs, Florida), who had previously produced other color correction systems such as da Vinci Classic (1985), da Vinci Renaissance (1990), and da Vinci 2K (1998).
